In April, rap star, Lil Kim, shared a photo on Instagram showing off lighter skin and blond hair, making her almost unrecognizable. Though some expressed support, many fans were upset, even outraged. A successful black female performer with a net worth of $18 million felt compelled to alter her natural beauty to fit in with a society that idolizes one type of beauty.
But beauty, inside and out, comes in all shapes, sizes, eye color, skin color, ages, capabilities & gifts. Judging someone simply by appearance overlooks the other parts that make them special, too.
At Aspire Women’s Center, we celebrate the whole person & encourage healthy lifestyle choices for the Intellectual, Emotional, Social & Spiritual sides, as well as, the Physical.
You are more than your looks. You can expect others to respect your limits and boundaries. You don’t have to have sex to prove or earn love. You deserve to be and feel safe in your relationships. You are strong – woman strong – use that strength to protect & empower your heart, as well as, your body.
“Beauty isn’t about having a pretty face. It’s about having a pretty mind, a pretty heart, and a pretty soul.”
